About the ACG and Cranfield University

The Australian Centre for Geomechanics (ACG) was established in 1992 to promote research and education in the field of geomechanics for Australia's extractive resource industries. The aim is to ensure safer working environments for all resources (human and capital) and to add value to this most important of Australian industries.

Following the success of the first international conference on Mine Closure held in Perth, Western Australia in September 2006, the Australian Centre for Geomechanics initiated a series of international conferences held in different parts of the world with active mining industries.  In subsequent years, conferences on Mine Closure have been held in Santiago, Chile (2007 and 2010), Johannesburg, South Africa (2008) and again in Perth, Western Australia (2009). It is anticipated that future conferences will be held in different parts of the globe including Australia, South America, Southern Africa, North America and Europe.
